Inn and Spa at
Loretto Hits High Notes with ‘Le Tailgate at the
Santa Fe Opera’ Package
Upscale accommodations, gourmet
tailgate picnic, and renown opera talent delight
in the high desert.

(Santa Fe, NM) Home to one of the world’s
most beloved opera companies, Santa Fe is among
the 2009 Top 10 Destinations for Music Lovers
chosen by Frommer’s and Opera News. Contrary to
traditional operatic stereotypes, the tailgate
parties outside Crosby Theatre are known to be
as entertaining and colorful as the en plein air
“open air” opera performances themselves. For
the 2009 season, July 3-August 29, the Inn and
Spa at Loretto invites opera aficionados and
tailgate enthusiasts to revel in style with ‘Le
Tailgate at the Santa Fe Opera’ 2009 season
package. Starting at $282.79 per night, the
package includes guestroom, made to order
tailgate picnic basket for two and valet hotel
parking.
Another Winning Season of Opera
and Hospitality
Opera fans travel from around the world to
experience the enchantment of high Cs in the
high New Mexican desert. One reason for the
tremendous popularity of Santa Fe Opera is its
pre show events, unique to Santa Fe’s casual
sophistication. Founded in 1956 by John Crosby,
the Santa Fe Opera Company endears aficionados
and seduces amateurs with its ambitious
performance roster and architecturally
impressive, open-air theatre. This season’s
premiere performance of The Letter, follows the
return of timeless favorites, such as La
Traviata, and Don Giovanni, along with a new
production of Alceste, performed by the company
for the first time. The venue itself is often
star of the show, as its outdoor setting has
magnificent, unfettered views of the mountains,
sunsets, night sky and occasional desert storms.

The 2009 season officially welcomes new general
director, Charles MacKay, and debuts new
performers, as the company says goodbye to
retiring chief conductor, Edo de Waart. For more

historical surroundings near the Plaza and flows

In 2008/2009, the Inn and Spa at Loretto
completed a $7.5 million renovation/re-design
that infused cultural design into its 134 guest
rooms, Luminaria restaurant, Living Room lounge
and communal areas to further emphasize its
historic beginnings and cultural diversity. The
Inn and Spa at Loretto’s two restaurants,
outdoor heated pool, garden, and holistic spa
provide guests with a tranquil enclave to
